About The Kelecung Project

With Your Support

Your Support Benefits A village... And Beyond!

Indonesian Team - Kelecung Project

Our primary goal is to support the local efforts of the Puspa Institute and its founder, Putu Ayu Puspawardani (Aniek). This is a centre of Excellence, a place to learn, and is locally owned and operated by Aniek.

Raising funds to purchase the land, building materials and equipment needed to start a local hydroponic facility, mushroom house and training and resource centre is our primary goal.

Additional funds will needed to kick start the training and resource centre.

Once the facility is fully operational, it is expected to be self  supporting and sustaining.

Profits from the sale of harvests, admission fees and donations from visitors, and from fees associated with training courses will be directly invested back into the project or into the community.

Aniek and Kelecung Project are creating a sustainable industry within the community. The project will employ many locals throughout the building of the project, as well as for running the day to day operations of the facility.

The project will also educate locals on the methods of hydroponics, inspire young people to study hydroponic agriculture, and provide both food and income for the surrounding communities.

Having this facility operating will ease some of the hardships associated with unpredictable weather patterns which can damage and delay crops, resulting in a food shortage, as well as loss of income.

Her dream is to see this become a community effort, where everyone benefits equally.

Project Overview

Hydroponic Farming

Hydroponic farming will allow for a steady supply of greens and vegetables that will be grown regardless of seasonal droughts within the area. This will ensure both a steady food supply for the village as well as income for the facility, and increasing the overall quality of live for the residents of Kelecung.

Mushroom House

Throughout Bali a shortage of protein options has occurred with a recent entry of the African Swine Fever which caused the death of thousands of swine. As pork is a staple in Indonesia, and beef is rarely eaten, mushrooms have become the new choice for protein replacement throughout the Region.

Composting

Organic Waste has been identified as the largest component of the project's  waste stream. The goal is to begin a village wide composting program to divert both the facility's waste stream as well as organic waste from the village. The organic compost will benefit all local growers.

River Clean Up

The Yeh Mataan River runs through the village is necessary for many locals' survival. Plastics and garbage are fed into the river due to poor waste management in this part of the world. Ramping up the ongoing clean up efforts and developing a plan to deal with the waste/recyclables is another component of the project.

How The Kelecung Project Benefits The Community

Sustainable Agriculture

Diversifying some of our local crops with our hydroponic system will provide our community with more food that doesn't need to be transported = sustainable = win!

Increase In Employment

Employing our local residents means that we are giving them not only a "job" but a career, a future and skills that they can pass along to their children and visitors who want to learn the system.

Education

Our project will not only provide education for those that we employ, it will be a resource and teaching centre for anyone interested in learning our methods, world wide!

Predictable Food Supply

Having a great amount of control over our hydroponic environment means that our food supply will be more predictable. Knowing that our community will be fed brings peace of mind.

Renewable Technology

Our goal is to implement renewal technology, such as solar, as well as waste recovery (recycling to energy) to reduce the demands of using non renewable resources. Less resources = healthier planet!

Clean Rivers

Removing both recyclable and non recyclable waste from our rivers is an all around win. There are many options we are exploring for recyclables, and waste will be dealt with in an appropriate manner (not being dumped into the ocean.)

Beautiful and Safe Beaches

When we are able to reduce the amount of waste in our rivers, the beaches benefit. Rivers dump their water and waste into the ocean, which wash up on the beach. Cleaning up the rivers will eventually result in cleaner and safer beaches.

Less Waste

Each component of our initiative is designed to reduce waste. From composting, to renewable energy, to river clean ups, and education, we aim to reduce waste both locally and globally.

Clean Ocean

With our river waste reduction initiative, we will also be contributing to cleaner oceans. Most of the garbage that ends up polluting our oceans starts from the worlds rivers. One river clean up at a time eventually means cleaner oceans across the world.
